Language Arts Goals
Our goal is to help children incorporate age-appropriate grammar and spelling into their daily writings. The true test of mastery in language arts is one's ability to produce quality writings with correct grammar/language skills and spelling!
This year, we will focus on:
*Grammar/language units: types of sentences, capitals, punctuation marks, parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns), conjunctions, prefixes/suffixes, multiple meanings of words, homophones, and figurative language.
*Spelling: high frequency words and phonemic-spelling words. Spelling will be incorporated into the weekly LARS.
*Writing: writing details, appropriate organization, good word choice, strong beginnings and endings, sentence fluency, and using one's voice in writing. We will focus on the Writing Process and Traits of Writing - the links above will explain each one!
*We will focus on three types of writings: narrative, opinion, and informational.
